Next Wednesday 26 August, Douglas Lim from Douglas Lim Digital will be sharing his insights into the world of Digital Marketing at Morning Startup. Having a digital marketing strategy is becoming increasingly important for entrepreneurs and startups. With more and more people venturing into their own business, integrating your online marketing without a plan – could be the difference between getting known and building deeper relationships or just using an ad-hoc approach and never understanding the power of your online value proposition.
How did you decide to get into social media & digital marketing?
I loved the challenge of working out how to get more traffic to websites and to convert this traffic into customers.
So I started off my journey learning search engine optimisation as a traffic generation source and got super excited (as if I had won the lotto) when I started ranking a website that wasn’t even in the top 100 results of Google for a competitive term to reach the number one spot. It took three months to get there, but that set off a passion in me.
Then I started to diversify my knowledge in the digital marketing space and in particular, social media where I started learning how to build tribes on social media and realised that you will never learn it all – there’s way too much information out there!
Without giving away what you’ll be chatting about at Morning Startup, what has been your biggest challenge so far and how have you navigated it?
Definitely putting all the moving parts together as part of the one digital marketing strategy. Each part must gel with the other parts to make the whole thing smooth sailing – this is not easy at all to get right. Then once this strategy is in place, how do you then create more sales and customers?
Without a doubt. If you’re not leveraging digital marketing for your business, you’re leaving a lot of money on the table. A LOT OF MONEY!! Also as our economy changes, it’s now more important than ever to leverage the power of digital marketing to reach your target customers.
Career or personal highlight so far?
Going to Melbourne to accept a BRW Fast Starter award and meeting one of the founders of Flippa and 99Designs.
What are you focusing on next as a project?
Creating a recurring revenue stream and then straight into my own SaaS app.
