Women in Entrepreneurship event sees huge turnout

The City of Perth, and the Directors of the Founder Institute, including Andrew Hall, Nathan Sturke, and Isis Nair hosted their ‘women in entrepreneurship’ night at Spacecubed on Monday.

An event expecting around 60-80 people achieved a high of over 100 women for the question and answer session whereby local female entrepreneurs explained their journeys, and advice to budding entrepreneurs.

The speakers included; Isis Nair an ex Google employee, Claire McGregor from Appbot, Sheryl Frame from Springboard Enterprisesand Accelerating Commercialisation; Kath Giles from Brandon Capital and Stone Ridge Ventures, Pia Turcinov from the Entrepreneurs Programme.

The talks revolved around three main lessons and Andrew Hall from Founder Institute explained, "every budding entrepreneur should come up the financial literacy curve, and gain competence and confidence in financial matters... Secondly, it’s important to boost your confidence and self-belief in your startup business, you should use failure as a tool on the path to success... And finally, you should hold a customer-centric focus”.

Claire McGregor spoke about her experience, and the vitality for holding a customer-centric view with examples of understanding Appbot’s customers:

Kate Kirwin, Spacecubed’s events coordinator, spoke of the great lessons, entrepreneurial tips and solutions the guest speakers shared with the audience. “It was great to learn from Kath Giles about how mistakes are positives, and if we don’t make them as entrepreneurs, we won’t make anything at all.”
